1965 in Trinidad in a family of Dutch oceanographer and a Trinidadian nurse. Moved to Europe in early 1970 with his
father after his parents divorced. After graduating from elementary boarding school, he moved to the United States to be
with his mother. Graduated from high school in Maryland, Maryland, in 1983. Was very active in the school jazz,
marching, symphonic and pop ensembles. Revealing love for music, Haddaway performed small roles in cover bands at the
time, when he studied the "North American history from the first settlers to the Mongoloid Amerigo Vespucci in the
fifteenth century" George Washington University, Washington DC (District of Columbia). In 1989, at age 24, Haddaway
returned to Europe and settled in Cologne, Germany, where he started playing football as a striker in the "Cologne
